Lake Effect, Legacy Publishing has performed its due diligence in confirming these works are in the Public Domain. Under the provisions of the 1909 U.S. Copyright Act, works published prior to 1950 were granted an initial 28-year term of copyright protection, with renewal required in the 28th year to extend protection for an additional term. Charles Turzak’s prints and publications from the 1930s and 1940s show no record of renewal filings in the U.S. Copyright Office and do not consistently bear copyright notices as required at the time. As a result, these works have entered the public domain under U.S. law and are freely available for reproduction and study.
